By the age of three, most dogs have some dental disease. Brushing removes plaque before it hardens into tartar, and most dogs learn to enjoy it.
- Pick a pet toothpaste (never human toothpaste)
- Let your dog lick a little from your finger
- Lift the lip and rub the outside of the teeth with your finger
- Switch to a soft brush, a few teeth at a time
- Build up to thirty seconds a day, with praise
You only need to brush the outside surfaces. The tongue does a decent job on the inside.

Bad breath, red gums or dropping food are signs to book a dental check.
